Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz secured a convincing 87-76 victory over Olimpia Milano in their latest EuroLeague matchup, delivering a performance defined by superior shooting efficiency and timely execution. The final scoreline reflects a game where the home side controlled the tempo for long stretches, building a lead that proved insurmountable despite Milano's efforts to claw their way back into contention.
Baskonia's offensive output was anchored by a highly efficient shooting night. The hosts converted 32 of their 59 field goal attempts, a remarkable 54.2 percent success rate that kept constant pressure on the Milano defense. From beyond the arc, Baskonia knocked down 11 of 26 three-point attempts, punishing Milano whenever they sagged off on the perimeter. At the free-throw line, the home team was flawless, hitting all 11 of their attempts. Milano, by contrast, struggled to find rhythm from the field throughout the contest. The visitors made just 25 of 65 field goal attempts, a 38.5 percent clip that ultimately proved too costly. Their three-point shooting was similarly problematic, with only 7 conversions from 24 attempts. Milano did find some success at the charity stripe, converting 19 of 22 free throws, but it was not enough to compensate for their field goal woes.
The statistical battle reveals exactly why Baskonia came out on top. The home side dished out 20 assists, matching Milano's playmaking output, while also controlling the defensive glass with 25 defensive rebounds compared to Milano's 18. Baskonia's 32 total rebounds gave them a plus-two advantage on the boards, but it was their shooting efficiency that made the decisive difference. Milano grabbed 12 offensive rebounds, generating second-chance opportunities, but their inability to convert those extra possessions into points undermined that effort. Baskonia also recorded 6 steals and 2 blocks, while Milano countered with 8 steals and 2 blocks of their own. Turnovers were a significant factor as well, with Baskonia committing 16 compared to Milano's 11, yet the hosts' superior shooting masked that discrepancy. Personal fouls were called 22 times against Baskonia and 18 against Milano, but neither team was able to exploit the bonus situation enough to shift the momentum.
The game flow was dictated by Baskonia's ability to build and maintain separation. Every time Milano threatened to close the gap, the home side responded with a timely basket, often from beyond the arc. The perfect free-throw shooting ensured that Milano could not employ a late-game fouling strategy to chip away at the lead. Milano's offensive inconsistency, particularly from the field, prevented them from stringing together the extended runs needed to overturn the deficit. For those analyzing Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz vs Olimpia Milano prediction ahead of future meetings, this result underscores the importance of shooting efficiency and rebounding control. The H2H stats and recent form clearly favored the home side on this occasion, and Baskonia's balanced attack, combining interior scoring with perimeter precision, proved to be the blueprint for success. Milano will need to address their field goal percentage and defensive rebounding if they hope to reverse this outcome in the return fixture.
